This photo is of the Connie and Gerry family at the 1901 house in Mesa.
In the front we have Pearl and Gerald.
In the back row we have PappaDaddio, Bill holding Frihoff and Connie holding Petrea.
In the back corner we have man's best friend.
Since Marie seems to be nonexistent in this photo, I would guess she is the photographer.

A young Connie

Connie always strived to dress well and to dress for the occasion.
She strived to look her very best for her entire life as seen in this photo.

Connie is holding her infant son, Bill.
There is another picture similar to this one which has been posted with Rusty looking on to a very similar scene.

Afton and a military plane

Afton Williams Allen is the young lady who is 4th from the right.
This plane looks like a B17 bomber.
Luke Air Force Base would be the closest military base that would house planes of this size during the war.
The young lady who is 3rd from the left shows up with Afton in other pictures.

Connie & Pearl - sisters

Pearl and Connie are standing together at their home in Mesa.  Pearl is Connie's sister and younger than Connie by three years.  Pearl was born in 1929.  As you can see in the photo, they both have some sort of tag attached to their blouse.  Not sure what they are but they look like price tags.

Granny Jo & Verne

Granny Jo and Verne Hicks are the people front and center in this photo.
However, if you look closely  there are 5 more people who can be identified.  Starting in the lower left hand corner, half of Marie's face can be seen.  Then in front of Marie, you can see Frihoff and Petrea sitting at the picnic table.  In the middle of the photo is Mother (Afton) with her husband Gerry (Gerald) standing behind her.  The photo would have been taken most likely taken around 1962 due to Petrea's age and Granny Jo died in 1967.

Afton & Cleo

Afton Williams Allen has many photos of her with this particular friend, Cleo Holder.  Afton is the one sitting down on the right and Cleo is standing to the left.

Mother & Daughter

Afton Williams Allen is holding her second child but her first baby girl, Marie.
Rusty commented on Facebook that he remembers the dress that Afton is wearing.

Proud Mom

Afton Williams Allen is the proud mother of a new baby girl.  Marie is the newborn she is holding and Rusty, her nephew, is the young boy looking on.  

Out on the Town

Here is Connie and Gerry all dressed up and ready to go out on the town.  Their dress would suggest that they kept up with the fashions of the day.

On the Ferry

These pictures of Connie and Gerry have at least one thing in common.  They are both taken while on the ferry in California.  At this time I do not have any more information about the ferry but will continue to try to find out more.

The Common Factor - Cleo Holder

Cleo Holder was a very good friend of Afton Williams Allen.
In the top photo, Cleo is standing with a little Marie riding the tricycle.

They are wearing matching dresses for the photo.

I have to wonder where this photo was taken.
I know that in the older days there were places that had water for people to put in their radiators.
It looks like they are coming up through a mountain pass in the photo.
Was this one of those stops?
Oh, the stories this picture could tell us if we only knew more.

Else Johanne Anne Marie Nybo Williams

It has been many years since this history of Granny Jo was compiled by Aunt Pearl.  She had a very strong feeling at the time that her grandmother's story needed to be told.  The experience of writing this history brought Aunt Pearl and her maternal grandmother closer together.  She found the great internal strength and faith this pioneer woman possessed.  The promise of Elijah of sealing families was truly felt through this writing experience.  Aunt Pearl hopes that her history will draw her closer to you as well.
