Marie, the family photographer

This photo is of the Connie and Gerry family at the 1901 house in Mesa.
In the front we have Pearl and Gerald.
In the back row we have PappaDaddio, Bill holding Frihoff and Connie holding Petrea.
In the back corner we have man's best friend.
Since Marie seems to be nonexistent in this photo, I would guess she is the photographer.

Melissa commented - This looks like normal family photos!

Hugs for Dad

Bill is standing behind his dad on the left, giving him a hug.
It would seem that PappaDaddio and Bill are sharing an outing out in the desert.

Jeremy commented - I'm guessing this is my Dad's childhood friend Guadalupe in the picture. Anyone know for sure? They used to run around together playing Robin Hood, and Guadalupe gave my dad a copy of the book, with a note inside the front cover that said, "Billy and Guadalupe, best friends". It's old and battered, but I still have it.

PappaDaddio in uniform

PappaDaddio at the Gilbert home after the war and in uniform.

Family Campouts

The Allen family annual camp-outs were the highlights for many people.  It was fun to see how much the grandchildren had grown and how much the older generation had changed (aged).  PappaDaddio was famous for the work he put into the camp-outs to make sure everyone had a great time.  Here is a photo of PappaDaddio and his son, Bill at one of these camp-outs.

Connie & Gerry

The following comments were made on the Allen facebook page concerning this photo of these two:

Jodie - I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!

Kathy - My life is forever blessed because of the great example of unconditional love shown to me by these two amazing people. I miss them and love them dearly!

Frihoff & his guns

Frihoff enjoys shooting guns.  He enjoys skeet and other target shooting with his shotguns.

According to this photo, Frihoff's interest in guns began a long time ago.  Frihoff is front and center in this photo.  If you look closely he is holding a toy pistol and wearing a really cute pair of holsters.

Frihoff's dad (PappaDaddio) and brother (Gerald) are standing behind him to the right. Bill is jumping on the trampoline while Pearl is sitting on the trampoline watching him.

Radiator Water

Do you remember in an earlier post there was mention of places along the road for cars to stop and put water in their radiators?  In the old days, car overheating was a problem even if they were great cars like this one.  Places that had long climbs and steep climbs tended to have these radiator water locations.  Here is PappaDaddio as a young man putting water into his car at one of these locations.  I would guess that this photo is after the war and after he had married Connie due to other similar photos.  This would place PappaDaddio in his late 20's.  He married Connie on the 11th of August in 1946 when he was 28 years old.

Granny Jo & Verne

Granny Jo and Verne Hicks are the people front and center in this photo.
However, if you look closely  there are 5 more people who can be identified.  Starting in the lower left hand corner, half of Marie's face can be seen.  Then in front of Marie, you can see Frihoff and Petrea sitting at the picnic table.  In the middle of the photo is Mother (Afton) with her husband Gerry (Gerald) standing behind her.  The photo would have been taken most likely taken around 1962 due to Petrea's age and Granny Jo died in 1967.

Out on the Town

Here is Connie and Gerry all dressed up and ready to go out on the town.  Their dress would suggest that they kept up with the fashions of the day.

On the Ferry

These pictures of Connie and Gerry have at least one thing in common.  They are both taken while on the ferry in California.  At this time I do not have any more information about the ferry but will continue to try to find out more.

Pearl at Southgate home

Pearl seems to find herself behind the camera instead of in front of it.  Here is Pearl with PappaDaddio in the background.  Other pictures with Pearl in this same outfit are at a cemetery with the family visiting grave sites.  Through the family Facebook page, Rusty informed us that this photo was taken in the backyard of the Southgate home in Salt Lake City, UT.

Sling Shot Shooting

Taking time out to shoot those homemade sling shots out in the desert.  I do not know if Pearl and Gerald are just waiting for their turn or if they were too little.  The best part of the photo is the correct shooting form Marie is demonstrating in this picture.  "Rotate hip and shoot".

Giddy Up at Pappadaddio's

Gerald's good friend Larry, kept his horses at PappaDaddio's place on Power Road for many years.  Larry in turn helped PappaDaddio maintain his property there.  It was a win-win for both men.  Larry would allow the grandchildren to ride his horses.  Here we have Melissa and little sister, Chrissy riding one of the horses.

If you look closely, you will see PappaDaddio, Christopher, and G.T. in the background.

PappaDaddio

While this picture looks like Frihoff, it is really a picture of PappaDaddio.  What I find amazing is that not only does Frihoff looks like his father, but they have similar traits and characteristics.  How many of you have seen Frihoff wear similar type shirts?  As the saying goes, two peas in a pod.

Just Married

Pearl and Grant were married on May 28, 1976.  They are joined in this picture by their parents.  Pearl's parents of Gerald and Afton on the left and Grant's parents of Dora and Gerald on the right.  Even though both fathers had the same name, it pronounced very differently.  Due to this fact, Mikkel ended up with the initial G for his middle name in honor of both of his grandfathers.  What a beautiful bride and handsome groom.

A Tribute to Gerald Mecham Allen

The following media presentation was prepared at the time of PappaDaddio's death.  It is a great reminder of the life of a great man.
